Are You a Future Journalist?

Each summer, high school students from around the country and world travel to Boston to learn the craft of journalism from award-winning reporters at Boston University's Summer Journalism Institute, presented by the College of Communication and the New England Center for Investigative Reporting. They start each day in class to cover core skills but soon everyone is out interviewing sources, checking facts and writing original news stories.
Students leave with a solid foundation in news literacy, writing, interviewing and research – skills that any student can apply in college and beyond, whether or not they pursue journalism as a career.
But we make time for fun, too. Students see what Boston is all about – from Red Sox games to the historic Freedom Trail. They also have an opportunity to schedule college tours and meet with the admissions team at BU and other nearby campuses.
Two-week sessions begin on June 24, July 8, and July 22. To apply, students will complete our online application and submit their unofficial transcript (including recent grades), a recommendation from a teacher, and a letter explaining their interest in the institute.
