Top FAQs as Your Students Start Their UMD Application

As students are beginning the application process, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Maryland are providing the following FAQ's in order to help tackle the UMD application before the priority deadline. In particular, we want to highlight changes regarding how we accept students' activities and awards list or resume this year:

Extra Materials - What Should I Submit With My Application?

  • We want to know about all the amazing things you do and have already accomplished. Although there is not a space to upload portfolios, videos and similar files directly to your application, we encourage you to note your accomplishments in the Activities/Experience section of MyCoalition.
  • This section of the application is the equivalent of your resume and we do not accept these files via email. Take a look at the Freshmen Application Checklist for a full list of required materials needed with your application.

Standardized Test Scores - When & How Should I Submit These?

  • Test scores can be submitted in advance of completing the application. So, avoid the stress and have your scores submitted now. You are required to have at least one SAT or ACT test score on file by the priority deadline, November 1.
  • Scores sent to UMD after the deadline will be added to your file, but we cannot guarantee that they will be considered with your application. It is to your benefit that you list University of Maryland, College Park as a recipient of all your SAT/ACT scores, as we total the highest section sub-scores earned (subject tests are not required). We do not accept email score screenshots as placeholders. SAT code: 5814; ACT code 1746.

Interviews - Do I Need to Interview as Part of My Application?

  • No, interviews are not part of the University of Maryland's review process. However, we encourage you to visit our beautiful campus and speak with our knowledgeable tour guides to help decide if you want to #BeATerp!

For your convenience, we have gathered more frequently asked questions on our website to help you and your students throughout the application process.
