In just six decades, Stony Brook University has established itself as one of America’s most dynamic public universities. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings places us among the top 1 percent of all the universities in the world. A member of the elite Association of American Universities, Stony Brook is also one of the 62 best research institutions in North America. Nobel laureates, Guggenheim fellows, and MacArthur grant winners teach on our campus, making it a magnet for outstanding students. The University offers more than 200 majors, minors, and combined-degree programs for undergraduates, 140 graduate programs, and has a total student population of 25,734 people.

Stony Brook’s reach extends from its 1,000-acre campus on Long Island’s North Shore —encompassing the main academic areas, an 8,300-seat stadium and sports complex, a performing arts center, Stony Brook Medicine, and the Long Island State Veterans Home — to a Research and Development Park, three business incubators, locations in Manhattan and Southampton, and unique study abroad programs in countries around the globe. Stony Brook also co-manages Brookhaven National Laboratory, joining such prestigious schools as Cornell, MIT, and Princeton on the list of major institutions that run federal research laboratories.

Stony Brook’s Seawolves represent our 20 Division I varsity intercollegiate athletic programs that compete at the highest level within the NCAA. All of Stony Brook’s men’s and women’s programs offer athletic scholarships. The annual cost of 2018~2019 for international student is estimated as US$45,124. We are ranked one of the top 30 best values in public colleges by Kiplinger—#1 in Northeast.
